It is spring time and that always means it's time for the Utah Hispanic Chamber's Annual Convention. This year, the 24 year old organization is holding a two day event for their membership and business community.

The keynote speaker will be Linda Alvarado, CEO of Alvarado Construction and co-owner of the Colorado Rockies MLB team. Ms. Alvarado is the highlight of a two day convention to be held on May 28th and 29th at the Salt Lake Sheraton Hotel. Armed with her mother's philosophy of "empieza pequeño, pero piensa muy grande," (start small, but think big) Linda Alvarado will discuss beginning her career as a laborer for a groundskeeper in college, moving into construction management, and forming her own company, Alvarado Construction. She started out pouring concrete for sidewalks and erecting small bus shelters. Now with more than 35 years experience in the construction industry, she builds high-rises, hotels, sports arenas, convention centers and more as a commercial general contractor, construction manager, developer, designer/builder, and property manager.

"We are so excited to have Ms. Alvarado share her story of perseverance with the Utah Hispanic Chamber business community. The story of beginning her life in a small adobe home with no indoor plumbing and now building high rises resonates with so many in our community," says Francisco Sotelo, President & CEO of Utah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to Ms. Alvarado, Marielena Acevedo former Managing Director and General Manager of Lipton Latin America will have a presence at our luncheon with a special presentation on the growing and evolving Latino consumer market.

The two-day event will also feature a Job Fair, Women's Business Leadership Breakfast; Business Expo; Business start-up and managing financial success workshops, and, a Spanish Motivational Conference with keynote presenter Fernando Arau, Actor, Comedian and former Univision spokesperson.

The last nine years, the Utah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (UHCC) holds an Annual Convention for members, corporate partners and the business community with the objective— to promote and encourage trade opportunities, to inspire success, to educate, to raise awareness of our diverse business community and, by doing so, to strengthen ties between business communities locally and regionally. Every year more than 900 leaders take advantage of national level keynote speakers, high quality workshops and our growing business Expo with more than 40 booths. This year's convention theme is—The New Business Mainstream- Broadening Utah's Economic Future.

The UHCC was established by a handful of entrepreneurs who had a vision for diversity in commerce in 1991. Our mission is to provide leadership, opportunities for economic growth, professional development and community involvement for our members. Over the years, the UHCC has become the premier Hispanic business organization.

Sponsors of this year's event include presenting sponsor— Arches Health Plan, Key Bank, Wells Fargo Bank , Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses, Chase Bank, McDonalds, Mountainwest Business Finance, Comcast, Mass Mutual, State Farm and Les Olsen Company.
