Crews battling outbreak of fires in central Idaho
Boise, Idaho • Residents of about 60 homes in a small central Idaho town remained under voluntary evacuation Tuesday as crews fought nearly 20 lightning-caused fires in the Boise National Forest.
Fire officials say the Whiskey Complex of fires are spread across 40 miles and are being fought with ground crews and aircraft.
One of the larger fires is about 150 acres in the Garden Valley area where the voluntary evacuations are in place. No structures have been lost.
Meanwhile, the Preacher Fire burning quickly through grass and brush near Carey in central Idaho grew to about 11 square miles by Tuesday morning as crews worked overnight to put in containment lines.
Fire officials predict that fire will be contained by late Thursday.
