Avon Lake, Ohio • An Ohio woman who reported that her husband committed suicide by suffocation in 2011 has been arrested on a murder charge.

Police announced Friday that 56-year-old Jeane L. Harrington, of Avon Lake, had been taken into custody after a three-year investigation into the death of her husband, 55-year-old Michael C. Gabel.

In a 911 call, Harrington said she found Gabel dead with industrial-strength plastic wrap around his head. She said he had left a note, and she described heavy debts coming due. The coroner determined Gabel died of asphyxiation, blows to his head and body, and electrical burns. Police say Harrington attacked Gabel with a stun gun before suffocating him. A message was left for a lawyer who represented Harrington in 2005 during divorce proceedings. The couple later reconciled.
