Layton • Layton Mayor Steve Curtis was remembered at his funeral as a man of the people who did the right thing regardless of politics.

Curtis, 58, died in his sleep Thanksgiving night. The Standard-Examiner reports he was buried Wednesday at Lindquist's Memorial Park in Layton.

His five children called him "Papa," the title they say he considered his greatest achievement.

About 750 people attended the funeral service at the Davis Conference Center.

Curtis served 18 years as an elected official, nearly eight of those as Layton mayor.

A cause of death has not been released.
