The Pac-12 continues to ease its way into the football season. That's a function of the 14-week calendar. It will be different in 2015, when the season won't begin until September. Each team will have only open date in the 13-week schedule. This year, there will be more continuity as of Week 5. As for Week 4, both of the intra-conference games should be at least mildly interesting. In nonconference play, it's true that I've picked the Pac-12 team in every matchup this season, which means I've been wrong a few times. But I'm not stopping now. Hawaii at Colorado, Noon MDT, Pac-12 NetworksHawaii played competitively against Washington from start to finish and mounted a fourth-quarter comeback against Oregon, only to lose both games. And those contests were played in Honolulu, where Hawaii is a different team. Colorado was not overwhelmed by Arizona State last week, which represented progress for the Buffaloes. Colorado 31, Hawaii 21. Utah at Michigan, 1:30 p.m. MDT, ABC/ESPNNot since 2001 have the Utes have not gone this deep into September before playing their third game. That's partly why a lot of questions remain about this team, some of which should be answered in the Big House. Michigan is no longer a Big Ten power, but the Wolverines should be tough for Utah to run against, making this game a good test for Ute quarterback Travis Wilson and his receivers. Utah appears to have enough athletic ability to beat an average Big Ten team. Utah 28, Michigan 24.Georgia State at Washington, 4 p.m. MDT, Pac-12 NetworksWashington finally put together a complete game last week in pounding Illinois 44-17, with offense and defense both supplying the points. The Huskies shouldn't have any trouble against an FBS newcomer. Washington 52, Georgia State 14. California at Arizona, 8 p.m. MDT, Pac-12 NetworksCal is kind of like Utah, feeling good about its improvement after winning two games against struggling opponents and having a week off. The trip to Tucson will provide a better gauge of the Bears' growth, after they went 0-9 in the Pac-12 last season. Arizona has not played spectacularly, but the Wildcats' nonconference opponents may be better than they appeared coming into the season. Arizona 31, California 21. San Diego State at Oregon State, 8:30 p.m. MDT, Fox Sports 1Could it get any bigger in Corvallis than having the Aztecs in town as OSU stages a reunion of players from the Dave Kragthorpe era? Don't answer that. San Diego State might be the best team in the Mountain West, judhing by its close loss at North Carolina, while the Beavers haven't put away an opponent yet. Each team had last week off, so they'll be eager to play. Oregon State 27, San Diego State 24. Oregon at Washington State, 8:30 p.m. MDT, ESPNThis game could last quite a while - too long for those of us who will be in the Eastern Time Zone early Sunday. WSU attempted 89 passes last year against the Ducks, and hasn't come close to slowing down Oregon's offense in a long, long time. Oregon 43, Washington State 28. - Kurt Kragthorpe
