Eugene, Ore. • The Utah Utes aren't divulging many details about the status of quarterback Travis Wilson, but what they are saying doesn't sound positive.

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said following Saturday's 44-21 loss to Oregon that he'll have more information on Wilson's status on Monday.

Wilson wasn't allowed to play Saturday due to the effects of a head injury he sustained in Utah's loss to Arizona State.

Whittingham said what mattered more than Wilson's playing status was his overall health and hinted there is more to Wilson's status than a concussion.

"Rather than saying something that is not completely accurate, I am going to wait until Monday and talk a little bit more about that," he said.

The sophomore is 7-9 as a starter and up until Saturday had played in all 21 games since his true freshman season.

Whittingham said the Utes are moving forward with the mentality that sophomore Adam Schulz, who started Saturday's game, is Utah's quarterback.

"Hopefully we can clear the picture up on Monday," Whittingham said.

Schulz was 13-of-30 for 181 yards passing with a touchdown and an interception against the Ducks.

Prior to Saturday's start, the most experience Schulz had this season came against Arizona when he replaced Wilson, who had an injured hand, and finished 12-of-23 for 142 yards and a touchdown. Whittingham characterized Schulz's effort on Saturday as "courageous."

"It wasn't perfect by any means," he said. "It was probably below average numbers, but he was thrust into a starting role against a legitimate Top 10 team and handled it well. He missed a few throws and there were some drops, but overall I was proud of the way he competed."

Schulz said he learned he would play mid-week and said there was no better stage in which to play than at Oregon.

"I wasn't good enough," he said. "A lot of this offense is on the quarterback. Every play you have a decision to make and it was just not good enough."

Whittingham said the offense was not modified much for Schulz, even though he isn't as mobile as Wilson.

"He can still pull the ball and get some runs if they are there," he said. "But he does have a strong arm."
