The 6-foot-3, 300-pound tackle also was considering Arizona State, Oregon State, Boise State and Washington State.
In addition, Clarence Smith, a 6-3, 215-pound running back/linebacker from Youngker H.S. in Buckeye, Ariz., also committed to the Utes.
The Utes are planning to host two players this weekend in Pita Taumoepenu, a defensive end from Timpview H.S., and Kylie Fitts, a 6-4, 260-pound highly sought after defensive end who has visited Notre Dame, UCLA and USC.
