Redshirt junior guard Glen Dean led the Utes with 18 points. Freshman forward Jordan Loveridge had another solid effort with 14 points while pulling down seven rebounds. Senior center Jason Washburn tallied 15 points to go with five boards and senior guard Cedric Martin and redshirt junior guard Aaron Dotson each neared double digits.
Utah erased a seven-point halftime deficit with a third quarter rally to take a nine-point lead, 65-56, but a few too many fouls slowed the pace and rhythm of the game in the fourth quarter and allowed Suzano to retake the lead and hold on for the win.
Suzano was a physical team with several season pros and was a step up from Jacarei, the Utes’ previous opponent. Utah began the trip with an 89-77 victory over Jacarei, on Monday.
Earlier Tuesday, the team also held a clinic at a local school in Sao Jose dos Campos.
The Utes will play their third game of the trip on Wednesday, before heading to Rio de Janiero.
