No doubt this season has been one of the most enjoyable for Utah fans to watch, thanks to all the big wins. Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said it has been his most enjoyable too.

"In the 16 years I've been here there hasn't been another team I've enjoyed more than these guys," Whittingham said. "They care about each other and there is an unselfish streak that runs through this team. That is a tremendous asset for us. They are blue collar and don't feel like we have major headliners, but a group of guys who don't seem to be concerned or care who is getting the press. All they care about is winning. It's a good group to be around."

Whittingham said in the preseason the team had a special vibe, and it has continued through the year. Quarterback Jordan Wynn credited the team's willingness to come together for helping the Utes get over a difficult first quarter at Iowa State, saying no one pointed fingers.

Instead, it seems there are a lot of pats on the back going around the team.

Utah linebacker Chad Manis said the team's chemistry reminds him of the 2008 season. "You all know how that ended up; that is a good thing," he said.

MWC award winners

Wynn and receiver Shaky Smithson were named MWC Players of the Week for their efforts in the 68-27 win over Iowa State.

Wynn was the Offensive Player of the Week after going 23-of-31 for 325 yards and two touchdowns as the Utes scored more points on the Cyclones than any other team has in Ames.

Smithson was the Special Teams Player of the Week for returning five punts for 145 yards, including one of 78 yards. He also had a 61-yard touchdown catch and threw a 32-yard touchdown pass.

In addition, the senior was a recipient of the "Paul Hornung's Most Versatile Performances of the Week" honors.

This and that

Utah linebacker J.J. Williams won't play Saturday due to his foot injury. … Utah, Texas Tech and Maryland will wear specially designed Under Armour camouflage uniforms and cleats for their games on Nov. 6 as part of the company's Wounded Warrior Project, which provides programs and services for injured service members and their families. Utah hosts TCU that day. Utah-specific fan gear is also available for the game.
