Utah quarterback Jordan Wynn was on the field with his teammates Monday, but he practiced sparingly and continues to be listed as day-to-day for Utah's game against UNLV Saturday.

Wynn, who was 21-for-36 for 283 yards and three touchdowns in the Utes' 27-24 win over Pitt on Thursday, sprained his thumb in the upset of the No. 15 Panthers.

He didn't throw Monday. Backup Terrance Cain took most of the snaps.

After practice, Utah football coach Kyle Whittingham was vague about Wynn's status.

"He is day-to-day, that is pretty much the long and short of it," he said.

Cain was 137-for-215 for 1,624 yards and 11 touchdowns last year but lost the starting role to Wynn in the eighth game. However, he had a strong spring and fall camp and Whittingham voiced confidence Monday he could lead the Utes against the Rebels if necessary.

"We have mentioned several times the progress he has made in the past year and if his number is called he'll be ready to go," he said.

Upon review

Whittingham gave the Utes' offensive line some compliments after watching film of the opener, saying the line's efficiency stuck out to him. "We didn't run a lot but when we did we had good success and had zero sacks," he said. "John Cullen played well in his debut and Tony Bergstrom always plays well. It was good to see and what we were expecting with four returning starters."

Keeping tabs

Whittingham has followed the six Utah players taken in the 2010 NFL draft and was happy to see they have held their own so far.

Offensive lineman Zane Beadles is with Denver, linebacker Koa Misi is with Miami, safety Robert Johnson is with Tennessee, receiver David Reed is with Baltimore and linebacker Stevenson Sylvester is with Pittsburgh. Corner R.J. Stanford was assigned to Carolina's practice squad Monday after he was cut Saturday.

The Utes have 21 players on current NFL rosters.

"It's good to see," Whittingham said. "It speaks well to the recruiting efforts of our assistant coaches."

Honor roll

Utah receiver DeVonte Christopher and safety Brian Blechen were honored with MWC Player of the Week awards for their efforts in the Utes' 27-24 win over Pitt.

Christopher was the Offensive Player of the Week, Blechen was the Defensive Player of the Week.

Christopher had eight catches for 155 yards and a touchdown while Blechen had five tackles and an interception in overtime that set up kicker Joe Phillips' game-winning 21-yard field goal.

This and that

Linebacker J.J. Williams (foot) remains questionable for Saturday's game and backup running back Sausan Shakerin (concussion) is out. … A limited number of tickets still remain for Saturday's game.
