5A state boys’ basketball coverage

The road to the Class 5A state title in boys’ basketball is under way at the Huntsman Center, and the TribPreps staff has you covered for all of Tuesday’s first-round action.

Bingham opened the tournament with a lopsided win over West. The Miners pulled away after clinging to a one-point lead at the half.

Lone Peak also earned a blowout win, overpowering Syracuse. The defending state champs got 29 points from BYU recruit TJ Haws.

Davis followed suit by routing Herriman. Elijah Kletzli finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Darts.

Copper Hills gutted out a win over Hunter. The Grizzlies got a double-double from Porter Hawkins, who scored 14 points to go with 10 rebounds.

American Fork experienced little resistance taking down Viewmont. Tyler Rawson led the Cavemen with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Brighton fought off Taylorsville to advance. Brock Miller scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to help the Bengals’ cause.

Alta grinded out a win over Hillcrest. The Hawks managed to hold the Huskies to 19.2 percent shooting from the field in the second half.

Pleasant Grove finished the day with an offensive-laden win over Layton. Matt Conway scored 35 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Vikings.
