If you score the final four points to rally from 16 down in the second half and lead your team to a state quarterfinal victory, teammates, friends and fans are going to chant your name.
"Our team’s crazy," said Taylor, who scored 16 of her game-high 25 points in the second half. "But we are very cohesive and it’s way fun."
The biggest of her nine field goals came on a 12-foot jumper from the right wing with 19 second remaining that gave Skyline (16-7) its only lead of the game.
"I just and did what I do, what I’ve practiced for my whole life," Taylor said. "Just went for the shot because I knew my teammates would want me to take it."
The Eagles swarmed Timpview’s Lauryn Dela Cruz in the lane and forced a turnover on the game’s final possession to secure a berth in the semifinals against Mountain View.
Let the celebration begin.
"You beat a team like that, you deserve to celebrate," Skyline coach Lynette Schroeder said. "[Timpview’s] so good. It was solely our defense that kept us in the game.Everyone just picked it up on the defensive end."
Dela Cruz had 14 points in the first half, but just three after the break. The Region 8-champion Thunderbirds (17-4) led by 16 with just under 10 minutes to play before Skyline began to chip away.
Mountain View 48, Wasatch 38 • Paulani Tarawa scored 14 points, Stephanie Keele added 10 points and the Bruins (18-3) used a big fourth quarter to pull away late. Ashlyn Coleman scored 13 points for Wasatch (15-8).
Springville 35, Bonneville 33 (2OT) • Savannah Park’s two free throws with 3.2 seconds left in the second overtime lifted the Red Devils (12-9) to victory in a defensive struggle. The Lakers (19-4) were held to one point in two overtime periods.
Timpanogos 60, Bountiful 54 • The Timberwolves (17-5) overcame a 13-point first-half deficit and made 9 of 12 free throws in the final two minutes to advance to a semifinal matchup with Springville. Bountiful (15-8) lost for just the third time in 16 games.
