Plenty of the participants in Thursday night’s girls’ basketball clash between Brighton and Bingham figure to be around for plenty of meaningful Region 3 contests down the line.
But the young players on both squads were fighting for their teams to stay in the hunt this year, and it was host Brighton that pulled away late for a 43-38 victory.

O The host Bengals score the last eight points of the game, not allowing a point from Bingham over the final six minutes.
"I was worried, but the kids came through in the end and did a good job," said Bengals coach Jim Gresh, whose team moved to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in region with the win.
Bingham (10-4, 2-2) trailed 12-3 early before fighting back over the course of the second and third quarters.
The visiting Miners had only three seniors with playing time against the Bengals, but all three made significant contributions.
Senior post Sherydan Parker led Bingham with 11 points and eight rebounds, while fellow senior Molly Erickson had six points. When the third senior, center Holly Sorenson, put back a shot with six minutes left in the game, the Miners had a 38-35 lead.
But the scoring went dry for Bingham from that point, as the Bengals scored an 8-0 run the rest of the way.
That run began when Sammie Smith scored a basket to close the gap to one.
With 3:02 remaining, McCall Christensen canned a pair of free throws as Brighton took a 39-38 lead. Christensen, on a feed from Alyssa Hirschi, then scored with 2:12 remaining for a three-point advantage.
Two free throws from Hirschi sealed the game with 10 seconds remaining.
Christensen’s nine points all came after halftime, when she said the team re-addressed its offensive approach for the night.
"[Gresh] told us to start attacking the basket and shoot more," Christensen said. "We definitely decided to take it to ’em in the second half.
Brighton fell behind in the Region 3 race when it lost to Alta on Tuesday.
