Prep football: Grand bounces back to dump Enterprise

Moab • It would have been easy to let the wheels come off entirely after the week the Grand Red Devils experienced last week.

They watched their quarterback leave with a broken leg, saw the clock tick down to zero in their first lost of the season and had their bus break down 20 miles into a five-hour drive home.

But with running back Koi Cook sliding under center in place of the injured Jacob Francis, Grand hardly missed a beat, dismantling the Enterprise Wolves 42-14 on Friday night.

"These guys stepped up," Grand coach Dennis Wells said. "Sometimes you have to face adversity."

Cook ran for two scores and found tight end Tanner White for a 50-yard touchdown pass.

Running back Cameron Taylor started off things for Grand, using a key block from Cook and racing down the right sideline for a 60-yard touchdown on the Red Devils' opening drive.

Enterprise answered right back, getting big yards on a quick slant to set up the tying score.

Taylor, however, wasn't done, adding touchdown runs of 8 and 23 yards in the win.

Both teams came into the night 4-1. Enterprise running back Kelton Hunt, the state's second-leading rusher, broke off a 45-yard touchdown run, but otherwise he was limited by the Grand defense.

"We put ourselves in a hole last week," Wells said. "We felt like we let one get away. But I've learned it never hurts to lose a game. It gets your guys focused. They know there's work to do."

Francis, who also is the team's kicker and defensive play caller, suffered a fracture in his left leg last week, but may not be done for the season. The senior said he's targeting a return for the playoffs.
