Taylorsville • With three good rushing threats on the field at the same time, finding enough reps for Olympus seniors Ben Seagle, Cooper Draper and Coleman Meier could present a problem.
But it sure didn’t Friday night.
The visiting Titans rolled past host Taylorsville 34-7 behind the trio of backs in Olympus’ final tuneup before launching into region play next week. Seagle finished with 133 yards, while Meier (96 yards) and Draper (85) neared the century mark.
"In our other games, our linemen had been kind of struggling to block lower, and we really worked on that this week," Seagle said. "Obviously the holes were right there for us."
Olympus (3-0) got on the board first when Seagle registered a 15-yard rushing touchdown to finish a 79-yard drive. Titans quarterback Chase Manning found Connor Haller, who lined up at a receiver position, for a 33-yard pass to set up the TD.
Taylorsville (2-2) didn’t take long to respond. Quarterback Toa Maumau threw a 77-yard bomb to wideout Emilio Salvador on the Warriors’ first play from scrimmage to give the home team a 7-6 advantage.
"That’s a good football team, and the score isn’t indicative of what the game could’ve been," Olympus coach Aaron Whitehead said. "They came right back and took it to our jugular, throwing over the top and getting us deep."
The visitors wouldn’t let the first period end without reclaiming the lead. A 23-yard run by junior JoJo Henderson, yet another quality Titans back, gave Olympus a 13-7 lead, which held until the half.
Taylorsville committed to the run to start the third quarter. Seven straight rushes by the Warriors got the ball to the Olympus 38 before the hosts were forced to punt.
Olympus promptly drove 80 yards in only five plays to take a 20-7 lead on an 8-yard run by Meier. The big play in the drive came when Draper, who headed upfield after initially seeking a hole on the left side, sprinted 50 yards to the Taylorsville 8-yard line.
