Pleasant Grove • Even though the Pleasant Grove football team was coming off a win over top-ranked Timpview last week, the Vikings running game was looking for a second wind.

A disappointing running game turned into this week's focus when Pleasant Grove hosted rival Timpanogos on Friday night.

Senior running back TJ Wind got the message. He responded by racking up 190 yards rushing and scoring two touchdowns to help Pleasant Grove roll to a 42-0 win.

"Our goal was to be more physical and run the ball well," Pleasant Grove coach Les Hamilton said. "Last week, we struggled running the ball against a real good Timpview team, but tonight I thought our O-line came out and established itself early and opened up holes for TJ Wind. Obviously, our defense did a great job all night long putting pressure on their quarterback. It was a great team effort."

Pleasant Grove scored on its first three possessions of the game to make quick work of Timpanogos.

The Vikings capped off an 80-yard drive with a 5-yard run from quarterback Jeremiah Evans on its first possession of the game.

It didn't take the Vikings long to pad their lead. After a Timpanogos punt, Evans and Spencer Romney connected on a 68-yard touchdown pass.

Wind kept the momentum going. He finished off a 60-yard drive with a 2-yard run that put the Vikings up 21-0 with 10:53 left in the half.

Romney nearly scored again on a 33-yard reception, but he was tackled at the 3-yard line. Wind was more than happy to finish off the drive with a run that gave the Vikings a 28-0 lead with 1:30 left in the half.

It only got worse for Timpanogos. The T-wolves promptly fumbled on their own 30. It took just one play for Pleasant Grove to make it hurt. Evans found Russell Elder for a 30-yard touchdown pass that made the score 35-0 left at the half.

Timpanogos looked like it would finally get on the board late in the third quarter, but Jared Ivan intercepted the ball in the end zone to preserve the shutout.
