Spanish Fork • Summit Academy didn't know a whole lot about Manti entering Thursday night's Class 2A state softball tournament game other than that the Templars were the Region 16 champions.

The Bears found out something else: When Manti starts to hit, it's hopeless.

Manti erupted for 15 hits in an 11-1 win in five innings to advance in the winners bracket.

"They came prepared and ready to hit," Manti coach Susan Hatch said. "They feed off each other. They work well together and build each other's confidence."

Manti set the tone with two runs in the first inning. Takisha McFarlane homered and Lizzy Palmer singled and later scored on an error.

After the Templars added another run in the third, Summit Academy got on the board with a run in the fourth. CheyAnne Dahl doubled and later scored on a wild pitch.

Manti put away the game with five runs in the fourth inning. Natalie Peterson got things going with a single. She stole second and moved to third on a groundout, then scored on a sacrifice fly by Ashlie Stevens.

Kemri Stilson kept the inning going with a single, and she scored on a Mikaela Cox double. Madison Blauer drove her in with a single. And after Palmer singled, Kaylie Thompson doubled home two runs to push the lead to 8-1.

It was more than enough for Thompson, who gave up just one run through four innings of work. Palmer then pitched the final inning to help the Templars advance to play San Juan on Friday, while the Bears will try to stay alive when they take on Richfield. —

Templars collect15 hits in the win.
