Richfield • One of the most difficult things about playing for third place in the Class 1A boys’ basketball tournament is trying to get motivated after a tough loss in the semifinals the day before.
Rich didn’t seem to have much trouble with that aspect Saturday as it scored the first nine points on its way to a 59-40 victory over Monticello at the Sevier Valley Center.

Though the Buckaroos made it close for awhile, Rich pulled away to a big victory with a dominating fourth quarter where the Rebels outscored the Buckaroos 22-11.
John Acree and Skyler Argyle both had 14 points for Rich (16-6). Argyle also contributed eight rebounds.
Monticello (19-5) was led by Jake Duncan with 10.
Layton Christian 54, Legacy Prep 25
Duce Namazi scored 16 points and Preston Sill added 13 as the Eagles sailed to an easy victory and took sixth place in the state tournament. Their stifling defense held the Lions to just one point in the first quarter and 15 points in the first three. Hunter Harmer had 10 points to lead Legacy.
Panguitch 53, Valley 42
Tyce Barney poured in 21 points, hauled in 11 rebounds and recorded three steals to lead the Bobcats to their third victory of the year over Valley and fifth place in the Class 1A boys’ tournament. Panguitch finished its season with a 21-4 record.
