A boisterous Grizzlies student section helped fuel the upset, which Logan led for most of the game.

"Holy cow, they’re the best fans out there," Logan junior Taylor Compton said. "They’re unbelievable."

It was no fluke that Logan prevailed Tuesday. The Grizzlies rained down 3-pointers and sported a fearlessness that Orem could not shake. Logan sophomore Tyler Brimhall and his Grizzlies proved that there are no long shots in the tournament.

Brimhall drained his first of five 3-pointers for the first bucket of the game, and that was just the beginning of Logan’s long-range success.

"If they’re going in, they’re going in," Compton said. "Obviously, 3-pointers are not the highest percentage shot. If they’re not falling, you have to take it to the basket, and we have plenty of guys that can take it to the rim."

But the 3-pointers were falling for the Grizzlies. They went 8 of 12 from long range in the first half to take a five-point lead into halftime.

Logan needed to beat Box Elder and Provo on back-to-back nights to earn a spot in the playoff field.

"We needed to play our game and keep our composure," Brimhall said. "We haven’t played a game all season where everyone was clicking."

Logan shot 55.9 percent from the field and made 10 3-pointers in the win.

But Orem stuck around. The Tigers were within two points with just more than a minute left when the Grizzlies flashed the ball around to the right. Senior Luke Falk passed on an open shot to dish to Brimhall, who nailed a 3-pointer for a five-point advantage, sending the Logan fans into a frenzy.

"I didn’t think about it," Brimhall said. "I just shot it."

The Grizzlies never took their foot off the Tigers’ throat in the final minute by hitting their free throws. Dallin Dahl went 4 for 4 from the line to pad a 7-for-8 performance from the charity stripe by the Grizzlies in the final minute.

"We’ve been in so many close games, and we know how important [it is] to make those shots." Compton said.

Brimhall finished with 23 points and eight rebounds, while Dahl added 12 points.

Dalton Nixon paced the Tigers with 17 points and Zach Hunsaker added 16.
