Girls' basketball: Hot shooting leads Sky View past Weber
North Ogden • Each time the ball left Sky View guard Lindsey Jensen's fingertips, the crowd grew silent, then groaned, as the ball dropped through the net. Jensen, seemingly oblivious to the deflation of the Weber crowd, each time hustled back on defense without a smile.
Jensen's career-high 29 points and seven 3s in only three quarters of work sparked the Sky View girls' basketball team to a 83-64 rout over Weber on Wednesday evening.
"My team gave me the ball when I had the hot hand," Jensen said. "We play really well together, as a team, and we'll give up the ball for each other."
The Bobcats snatched possession of the game in the opening minutes. Spurred by a pair of 3s from Jensen and eight points in the paint from Tara Goldman, who finished with 21, the Bobcats took a 30-7 first-quarter lead.
Weber never found an answer for Jensen or the rest of the Bobcats' offense. Throughout the game, the Bobcats' offense was fluid, always seeming to locate the open look, and efficient, rarely missing the open shot once they found it.
"We all had hot hands tonight," Jensen said. "This season, that was probably the best we've played on offense."
At one point in the second quarter, Jensen nailed 3s on three consecutive possessions. The sophomore would have likely finished with more points, but she didn't play at all in the fourth quarter.
"She's the girl that can nail them," Bobcats coach Paul Hansen said. "Lindey's only a sophomore, but she's very strong from outside. She had it going tonight, and I wish we could do that every night."
Erin Reichle had 26 points, including four 3s of her own, for the Warriors, but by the time she found her rhythm, the game was safely in the Bobcats' favor.
With the win, Sky View moved to 9-1, and Hansen said any team would have trouble beating the Bobcats when they perform like they did Wednesday.
"That's the way we can play, if everything's working," Hansen said. "⦠I feel like we can play with anybody if we play well."
