4A girls' soccer MVP: Fillpot anchored Bonneville's stout defense

Bonneville goalkeeper Megan Fillpot finally could breathe a sigh of relief after the clock ticked off the final seconds and hit double zeroes in the Class 4A state soccer title game.

As the last line of defense for the Lakers, Fillpot's performance regularly had much to do with the final outcome. She delivered as she'd done time after time during the season and her career.

Fillpot only gave up two goals during her team's four-game tournament run this season — a late goal against Orem in the opening round and one to Woods Cross in the semifinals.

"Knowing how much work we put into the state title race this year, and then seeing all of the work pay off, made this year's state championship just a little sweeter," Fillpot said.

While Fillpot regularly was blocking the opposition's best attacks, like the crushed ball from Bountiful's Jenny Skedros in the waning moments of the state championship game, she was just as easily seen and heard delivering praise to her fellow defenders.

"So much of my success came from the girls in front of me doing their jobs and keeping me out of tough situations," Fillpot said.

Fillpot finished the season with 12 shutouts.

"We won four region titles and two state titles during my four years, and now I'm just hopeful the program can keep on winning," she said.
