Sandy • Austin Kafentzis fell short of displaying concern, but he did acknowledge that Jordan's slow starts in recent weeks have grown annoying.

Still, it was hard to be too upset after the top-ranked Beetdiggers spotted visiting Brighton a two-touchdown lead and still ran away with a 42-14 victory Friday night.

"We always start slow. We need to get our heads in the game in the first half," said the sophomore quarterback, who scored three of Jordan's six rushing touchdowns. "Something always goes wrong. It's been continual each week."

The Beetdiggers, who rallied from deficits earlier this season to beat Alta and Cottonwood, fell behind 14-0 just two minutes into the second quarter after two Osa Masina rushing touchdowns for the Bengals (6-3, 1-3).

Jordan (7-1, 4-0) cut the lead in half before halftime, then found its all-too-familiar offensive rhythm in the second half. Aided by a Bengal fumble at the Brighton 1, Jordan put up two touchdowns in a 15-second span to take the lead.

Kafentzis scored twice on runs of 2 yards and once for 74 yards — the last effectively ended the night for Brighton late in the third quarter.

"We came out with a fire in the second half," said Jordan senior running back Dezmond Carter. "The coaches told us what we needed to do, and we executed."

Carter had a game-high 175 yards rushing and an 11-yard touchdown run. Kafentzis amassed 174 yards on the ground and 63 through the air on 4-of-10 passing.

Jordan claimed at least a share of the Region 3 title. It can complete an undefeated region campaign with a victory Wednesday at West Jordan.

"I don't know the last time we won [a region title]," Kafentzis said. "I don't know if we have won one. It means a lot to our program."
