Prep football: Pine View overwhelms Canyon View 56-0
Cedar City • Still upset by last week's overtime loss to top-ranked Hurricane, Pine View took out some frustration on Canyon View Friday night.
Senior running back Prentiss Miller carried 17 times for 207 yards and five touchdowns in the first half, leading the Panthers to a 56-0 victory over the Falcons in Region 9.
Miller scored on Pine View's first five possessions as the Panthers rebounded from their disappointing 30-23 loss to Hurricane.
"The team was kind of hyped up before the game because we were still mad about losing to Hurricane," Miller said. "We came out I felt bad for Canyon View because we were kind of [ticked]."
Pine View improved to 2-3 in Region 9 and 4-4 overall. Canyon View dropped to 0-4 and 1-7. The Falcons have been outscored 208-20 in their four region defeats.
"These kids are fighters," said Pine View coach Ray Hosner. "They are resilient. We had eight injuries going into our first region game but they never quit. They never stopped working hard. That's a tribute to the type of kids they are."
Pine View dominated from the beginning.
On the opening possession of the game, the Panthers' Austin Gibbs intercepted a pass and returned it 38 yards to the Falcon 10. Miller scored on the next play to make it 7-0.
After Canyon View punted, the Panthers went 86 yards in six plays and scored on Miller's 23-yard run.
The Falcons moved to the ball to midfield on their next possession but, on fourth down, Gibbs stopped a fake punt.
Canyon View took over at the 41-yard line and the Panthers needed only two runs by Miller to take a 21-0 lead. He gained 37 yards before thundering up the middle from the four.
Canyon View followed with a three-and-out its first of the game and Jaden Ahquin's 38-yard punt return gave Pine View possession at the Falcon seven.
From there, Miller scored again, giving the Panthers a 28-0 lead with 2:58 left in the first quarter, positioning Pine View to coast home.
"Our team is starting to jell a little bit," Hosner said.
