The Cottonwood football team, led by Alabama-bound quarterback Cooper Bateman, struggled to find its footing Friday night.

West Jordan's offense sputtered early before finding its rhythm in the second quarter to earn a 21-12 victory, its first of the season.

West Jordan came to life after falling behind 12-0 in the Region 3 opener for both teams.

Chinedu Ahanonu score from 3 yards out, and the Jaguars converted the PAT to cut their deficit to 12-7.

Jarmaya Omar and Tristan Taei caught touchdown passes to give West Jordan the lead heading into halftime.

Neither team scored in the second half.

Jordan moved to 1-4 overall, while Cottonwood dropped to 0-5. —
