Prep Football: Northridge 33, Olympus 0

Two games into the season, the reputation of Northridge running back David Adams is only gathering momentum.

Adams finished the night with 78 yards rushing, 100 yards receiving and two touchdowns as the Knights improved to 2-0 with a 33-0 rout of visiting Olympus.

"We've got a bunch of guys that are dangerous and for me that means people can't key on what I'm doing all the time," said Adams.

While Adams and junior quarterback Nate Kusuda lit up the night sky for the second week in a row, a defense that gave up 27 points to Logan in the season opener took a step forward. The Knights preserved the shutout with a goal line stand with less than seven minutes to play.

Linebacker Eliyah Mayberry followed up a three-sack performance in week one with another quarterback takedown, and generally wreaked havoc with repeated trips into the Olympus backfield.

"Keeping that shutout meant everything to this defense," said Mayberry. "Our coaches tell us that we'll only be nervous if we're not prepared and that's why we work so hard."

The Knights scored twice in the opening period, once on a 36-yard pass from Kusuda to Zach Hayes, and another on a three-yard run from Adams.

Hayes extended the lead to 20-0 at thehalf after Kusuda ran the two-minute drill to perfection, scoring as time expired.

"Nate is really poised in the pocket, and in those situations he's showing he has ice in his veins," said Northridge coach Erik Thompson.

Adams added a third quarter score before sophomore Dayan Lake ripped off an 84 yard run to cap the scoring.

"With our offense being young I thought we might have to rely on our defense early," said Thompson. "Our defense put our offense in short yardage situations all night and that was huge."
