After taking an early two-touchdown lead, the Woods Cross defense allowed a field goal and a 56-yard scoring strike as Viewmont crept to within four, early in the second quarter.

That's when star power took over.

Woods Cross senior Sean Barton ripped off an 80 yard run to turn the momentum, and the Wildcats scored 27 unanswered points, to earn a 41-16 road victory over Viewmont.

"I'm sure a lot of our fans were thinking here we go again," said Barton. "I thought it was crucial that we scored twice in that second quarter to open the game up a bit."

Barton's impact could be felt all over the field. His blocked punt at the 6:21 mark of the first quarter resulted in a one-yard touchdown run for the Stanford-bound senior just one play later.

The Wildcats committed five first-quarter penalties and had two scoring plays called back during the contest, catching the eye of first-year coach Justin Spencer.

"I liked that we fought and were aggressive all night," said Spencer. "I thought we crossed the line a few times with personal fouls, and we're certainly going to work on that."

The Wildcats weren't a one man show on offense, though as senior quarterback Skyler Barnes rushed for two scores and completed a 12 yard touchdown pass to Jake Brown to give the Wildcats a comfortable, 27-10 lead at the half.

"One of our big goals tonight was to get the ball to our playmakers, and I thought we did a good job of that," said Spencer.

Viewmont scored twice in the second quarter on a 29-yard field goal, and on a 56-yard pass from David Black to Blake Williams.

The Vikings added a late score when sophomore quarterback Max Hadlock completed a 6 yard pass to Aaron Dalton.
