Richardson, a senior forward, scored three minutes into the match on a hesitation move at the mouth of the goal, and in the 77th minute as he outpaced the Pine View defender and blasted the punctuation shot from the side.

The first goal, however, set the tone for the day.

"It gave us the confidence that we needed," Richardson said.

Later in the first half, Andrew Montoya blasted two goals from the far corner of the 18-yard box to aid the effort.

"We either come out fast or we come out slow," Juan Diego coach Scott Platz said. "There’s really not much middle ground for us. Getting that goal early got us on the front foot."

The Soaring Eagle entered the game as the No. 2 seed from Region 10, while the Panthers were the third seed from Region 9. Pine View was considered dangerous after a 3-0 shutout of rival Dixie.

Juan Diego dominated, despite being shorthanded on defense. With two center backs out, one due to a red card and another to food poisoning, senior Carlos Robles slid all the way back from his usual spot as an attacking midfielder to the center backfield.

He recorded the assist on Richardson’s first goal.

"He made me look like a genius," Platz said.

Ben Lomond 5, Delta 2 • Victor Gallindo scored four goals to carry the Scots past the Rabbits. The reward for Ben Lomond? A long drive to St. George and a tough matchup with Dixie.

Dixie 6, Judge Memorial 1 • Six players scored for the Flyers, who as Region 9’s No. 1 seed will play at home in the second round against Ben Lomond.

Wasatch 4, Desert Hills 1 • Ben Powell scored all four goals for the Wasps, setting the school record for goals in a season with 25.

Payson 3, Bear River 2 (OT) • The second seed from Region 12 got a late victory over the always dangerous Bears. The Lions will travel to Wasatch on Saturday to play the state’s top-ranked team.

Stansbury 1, Spanish Fork 0 • The Stallions earned the first playoff win in school history when Josh Gallegos’ goal in the second half allowed Stansbury to upset the Dons, Region 12’s No. 1 seed.

Ogden 3, Snow Canyon 0 • Roque Ceja, Diego Diaz and Alejandro Garcia all scored for the top seed out of Region 11, which has now won 11 in a row.

Hurricane 2, Park City 0 • Park City lost back-to-back games to end its season. JD Stansworth and Toby Anderson scored to give the Tigers a ticket to Ogden for the second round.
