Kaysville • For the second straight day, the Davis baseball team knocked off Layton in convincing fashion. This time, the Darts topped the Lancers by a mark of 5-0 Wednesday afternoon. Senior right fielder Carson Beyer led the way with a double, a triple and three runs batted in.
"I was seeing the ball really well, and it helps when guys get on base in front of you," Beyer said. "The weather was perfect, everything was perfect."

» Davis has now outscored Layton 15-2 in the series.
One day after smacking 17 hits, Davis needed a few innings to pick things back up on Wednesday. The Darts got runners into scoring position with no outs in the first and second innings, but they were unable to bring them around. Coach Dave Leo then had a chat with his club that changed the Darts’ fortune.
"I think after yesterday, we thought we could just roll out of bed and get 17 hits again," Leo said. "I told them that baseball is the greatest game ever invented because it’s different every day and yesterday doesn’t mean anything."
Beyer, for one, got the message. With two outs in the bottom of the third inning, Beyer got Davis on the board with an RBI triple down the right field line.
It stayed a 1-0 ballgame until the fifth inning, when Beyer returned to the plate. This time, he drove home two runs with a double off the wall in left-center field. Davis pounded three doubles in the inning, which helped it extend its lead to 5-0.
Davis junior pitcher Zac Fuller had a very business-like performance on the mound. He threw six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. Fuller finished with eight strikeouts.
