"I was kind of tired of seeing my teammates get swatted, so I knew I had to go up strong just to get the ball off," said Currie.
Tuesday’s first-round game in the Class 5A girls’ basketball tournament could have been a microcosm of the Silverwolves’ season: Great defense with a bunch of offensive players that seem to produce a different leading scorer almost every night.
"Playing tough defense is how we get our offense started," said Jamie Smith. "Playing hard gives us a lot of energy because we’re all working for steals and deflections."
Riverton guard Morganne Campbell’s ability to get into the lane early resulted in four free throws for herself and a 13-4 lead for her team after one quarter.
Granger finally got its offense off life support early in the second with a pair of baskets and two free throws from Lile Havile, yet the Lancers trailed by nine at intermission.
"Granger has really turned the corner," said Riverton coach Ron Ence. "The post has been a handful all year and I was impressed with how hard they played."
Riverton meets Layton on Thursday at 4 p.m. in what should be one of the better quarterfinal matchups.
