Richfield • After a defensive first half, the Rich Rebels exploded in the third quarter Thursday, outscoring the Green River Pirates 29-1 and going on to win 55-29 to easily advance to a Friday semifinal matchup with Wayne (7:30 p.m.) in the Class 1A girls’ basketball tournament.
The Rebels’ one-two punch of Alisa Peterson and Courtney Lamborn led the way, scoring 19 and 15 points, respectively.

Nobody scored in double figures for Green River, which will now take on Layton Christian in the consolation bracket Friday at noon.
"We really hadn’t played well offensively at all [in the first half], but in the third quarter we kind of picked up our tempo and got things going," Rich coach Scott Ferguson said, looking ahead to tomorrow’s date with Wayne. "… I’ve watched ’em three times now. They’re long, athletic and they push the ball quite a bit. They’re dangerous because they’ve got people in several spots that can hurt you."
Piute 42, Panguitch 35 • The Piute Thunderbirds claimed what was a back-and-forth game with a big fourth quarter, sending the Panguitch Bobcats to the consolation bracket. Piute had two players in double figures, with Whitney Westwood leading the way with 13 points. She was followed by Tori Gass, who had 12, including two treys.
Panguitch’s Natashia Barney was the only Bobcat in double figures, scoring 10.
St. Joseph Catholic 51, Manila 23 • Two’s company. Three’s a crowd. But nine? That’s a team effort. The St. Joseph Jayhawks had nine players score in their quarterfinal win over the Manila Mustangs, led by Katie Berry’s 12, which incuded two 3-pointers.
Berry was the only player to score in double figures, as Manila had none.
St. Joseph will take on Piute in the semifinals Friday at 6:00 p.m., while Manila moves to the consolation bracket to play Panguitch, Friday at 4:30 p.m.
Wayne 63, Layton Christian 30 • The Wayne Badgers had no problem advancing past the hapless Layton Christian Eagles, blasting to a 19-2 lead in the first quarter and coasting from there. Wayne had three girls in doubles figures — Haley Robins had a game-high 16 points, Sarah Taylor (13) and Whitney Coleman (10, including two 3-pointers).
Nobody reached double figures for Layton Christian.
Consolation bracket
Milford 54, Dugway 21 • Milford’s full-court press and Chandler Rose’s four 3-pointers took the Dugway Mustangs out of things early, and Dugway was never able to recover. Rose ended up with a career-high 20 points, with teammate Shyla Sherwood adding 10. Nobody scored in double figures for Dugway.
"They came at us with a full-court press and my girls didn’t respond very well," Dugway coach Brett Andrus said. "We made a lot of turnovers early on that seemed to take the wind out of us."
Milford will play Monument Valley in the consolation bracket semifinals Friday at 1:30 p.m.
Monument Valley 48, Duchesne 41 • The Monument Valley Cougars maintained the edge the entire game, finishing off the Duchesne Eagles and eliminating them from the 1A state tournament. Monument Valley’s Destinee Holiday, who scored 19 points, including a couple of treys.
