West offense has struggled all season
While the Panthers have shown flashes of life — a 50-48 loss to Region 2 first place Taylorsville on Jan. 25, for example — the season has remained rather dismal. West extended its losing streak to 10 games with a 47-32 loss to Granger on Feb. 2. Sia Skipps scored nine points in the loss and Lusia Tuakalua added six. It was the 10th time in 16 games that West failed to score 40 points.

East trying for playoff push
At 1-6 in Region 6 as of a 51-49 loss to Woods Cross on Feb. 3, East was still in the playoff mix. They’ll need to move up from fifth to fourth in the region, but, with games against Clearfield and Highland remaining, it’s doable. Madison Roemer and Ata Utuone combined for 31 points in the loss to Woods Cross.
Highland looking to end the season strong
It’s clear, as Highland dropped to 1-17 with a 52-35 loss to Cyprus on Feb. 3, that the Rams have a long ways to go before competing for a Region 6 championship again. But they can still make some progress this season. Games against Woods Cross on Feb. 10 and East on Feb. 14 are both winnable. Getting just one more would be great for Highland. Maryann Koeven scored 13 points to lead Highland in the loss to Cyprus.
Judge Memorial keeps pace in Region 10 race
With a 23-7 first quarter and a 22-12 fourth quarter, it was a pretty simple win for Judge over Union on Feb. 3. Kyra McComas notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Kaile Quinn racked up 21 points on five 3-pointers in the 68-48 win. Judge improved to 6-2 in Region 10 play, still a game behind Juan Diego, but still in the mix for a region championship.
Playoff hopes all but crushed for Park City
When Uintah beat Park City 63-48 on Feb. 3, it all but eliminated the Miners from the playoffs. They are two games behind Uintah in the standings in fifth place. Ending the season against Judge Memorial won’t make it any easier to make up ground. Sabrina Prior scored 18 points to lead Park City in the loss to Uintah. Carson Lyman and Hannah Hyatt combined for 15 more.
Rowland Hall snaps losing streak
The Winged Lion had lost 10 in a row when they visited Waterford on Jan. 31. But Rowland Hall jumped to an 11-3 first quarter lead and held off Waterford for a 36-24 win. Shelby Matsumura led the scoring with nine points and Marisa Eng and Meagan Hall each scored seven. Anna Smith led the Winged Lions in scoring with six points in a 53-17 loss to North Summit Feb. 2.
