If you can’t attend the Sundance Film Festival, you can still go online through a computer or your smartphone and get a small taste of the festival’s offerings.

Website » The festival’s official website is loaded with features to help guide festivalgoers to what’s going on, as well as spotlighting films and filmmakers.

Yahoo! » The search engine will post short films, starting Thursday, Jan. 19, at screen.yahoo.com; also available for screening on smartphones and tablets.

Instagram » The Instagram, where you can connect with Sundance’s photo feed, is available for the iPhone and iPod touch at the iTunes App Store.

The festival hires a 40-member team of photographers, videographers and bloggers who will be updating the site daily with news, as well as feature stories about the social issues presented in some of the films. Among the site’s features is a "Meet the Artists" section, with interviews of all 30 directors in the U.S. drama and documentary competitions.

"It’s a great way for people to get a sense of the films and the filmmakers and the personality and tone of the projects," said Sundance marketing director Jessica Buzzard. "We find that a lot of people refer to these videos when they do their ticket selection."

New this year, the festival will be posting what it calls "hot tub confessionals" where, as the title suggests, they will try to coerce filmmakers and stars to a hot tub for video interviews. "It’s an incredibly hard sell, but we’ll see who we can get into the hot tub," Buzzard said, laughing.

In addition, the site will be live streaming some festival events, including the opening-day news conference on Thursday, Jan. 19, and the awards ceremony for the festival short films on Tuesday, Jan. 24. The site also will be streaming several of the festival’s panel discussions.

"What’s unique about this is we’re going to offer the Yahoo! audience an opportunity to screen the shorts and vote on their favorites," said Erin McPherson, vice president and head of video for Yahoo! "The winner will receive an award and a stipend to further their creative developments."
