Utah State's quarterback situation has gone from great, to good, to dire with Darell Garretson leaving Saturday's game with a wrist injury during the Aggies' first drive of the third quarter in their 16-13 loss at CSU Saturday.

Garretson, who was 14-of-19 for 132 yards with an interception, was replaced by Craig Harrison, whose only action this season came in the Aggies' 40-20 win over Idaho State on Sept. 6.

The senior finished 5-of-12 for 28 yards as he failed to ignite an already struggling offense with the Rams out-gaining the Aggies 318-260 in total offense.

"I thought he battled and did all right," Utah State coach Matt Wells said of Harrison.

Wells is unsure how long Garretson will be out, but anticipated it could be "for a while," after initial X-rays. Garretson, who left the field with his arm in a sling and ice on his wrist, will be evaluated more thoroughly in Logan.

Who will move into his place is unknown with Chuckie Keeton remaining on the sideline with a knee injury. Harrison has the experience, but the Aggies also like the way freshmen quarterbacks Kent Myers and DJ Nelson are developing.

If it's Harrison, the Aggies will have to run the gall more, Wells said.

"If Craig's going to have to play, we'll trust him in the system," he said. "He's been in the system for a few years. He's going to have to throw the ball and we're going to have to get the ball to Hunter Sharp, which I don't think we did a very good job of doing that tonight."

Sharp had just two catches for 33 yards while JoJo Natson had six for 28 yards and Ronald Butler had five for 46 yards.

Running back Joe Hill said the rest of the offense needed to step up its game with all the injuries at quarterback.

"We all have to do a better job," he said. —
