Toronto • Giles Barnes scored in the first half and Tyler Deric made a series of big saves to help the 10-man Houston Dynamo' beat Toronto FC 1-0 on Wednesday night.

Barnes scored in the 35th minute, taking a pass from Kofi Sakodie down the flank and beating rookie defender Nick Hagglund and goalkeeper Joe Bendik.

Deric stopped Jermain Defoe's 58th-minute penalty attempt, after defender A.J. Cochran was sent off for dragging down Luke Moore.

Houston improved to 11-14-6, and Toronto dropped to 11-13-7. —
