Ogden • Southern Utah linebacker Chinedu Ahanonu has been named the Big Sky Conference's defensive player of the week, it was announced Monday.
Ahanonu is a sophomore from West Jordan. He had 10 tackles, an intercepted pass and fumble recovery in Southern Utah's 31-28 victory over Weber State.
Ahanonu's interception led to a Southern Utah touchdown in the second quarter. His fumble recovery halted a Weber State drive at the Thunderbird two early in the fourth quarter.
Other weekly players of the week were Idaho State quarterback Justin Arias (offensive) and Montana State kicker Luke Daly (special teams).
Southern Utah visits Cal Poly on Saturday night. Weber State has a bye.
