Atlanta • Georgia Tech has had its NCAA probation extended two years after its coaches were found to have made hundreds of impermissible calls and texts to recruits.
In 2011, Georgia Tech was forced to vacate its 2009 ACC football championship and placed on probation for four years due to NCAA rules violations.
The NCAA on Thursday said Georgia Tech failed to monitor its sports programs. The probation was extended to 2017.
The ruling, also obtained by The Associated Press in an open records request with the school, says coaches made at least 478 impermissible calls and sent at least 299 impermissible text messages to a total of 140 prospects.
Most violations occurred in the men's and women's basketball and football programs in 2011 and 2012.
