Ogden • Orem and Ogden will meet in the best-of-three Pioneer League South championship series, starting Friday night at Lindquist Field. Games 2 and 3 will be played Saturday and Sunday (if necessary) in Orem.

The Owlz reached the postseason on the strength of an outstanding first half, when they finished with a record of 24-14. The Raptors clinched the second-half by going 22-14, pending the outcome of Thursday night's regular-season finale at Idaho Falls.

Ogden enters the playoffs as the hottest team on the Pioneer League South.

The Raptors went 12-2 down the stretch run clinch a berth in the playoffs. Oddly, the season-turning stretch started after two of their top players — outfielder Devan Ahart and Pioneer League Pitcher of the Year Jose De Leon — were sent up to Great Lakes of the Class A Midwest League.

Even though it will be played in Utah, the Pioneer League South series will have a Los Angeles flavor. Orem is affiliated with the Angels. Ogden is affiliated with the Dodgers

The Orem-Ogden winner will face Billings for the 2014 league championship. The Mustangs won the first and second half in the North Division. —
