Salt Lake Bees: Team beats Iowa 4-2 for rare road sweep
Des Moines, Iowa • The Salt Lake Bees completed their first series sweep of the season with a 4-2 win over the Iowa Cubs on Tuesday.
Salt Lake hadn’t swept a road series since June 2012 at Tacoma.
The Bees trailed 2-0 in the fourth inning but cut the deficit in half in the sixth, when J.B. Shuck’s sacrifice fly drove in Shawn O’Malley.
The Bees pulled ahead 3-2 in the seventh inning, with RBIs by John Buck and Vance Albitz.
C.J. Cron, who had three hits, capped the scoring in the ninth inning with a solo home run. The Bees bullpen combined for 3 1/3 scoreless innings, with David Carpenter (2-1) going 1 2/3 innings for the victory. Dustin Richardson struck out the only batter he faced and Cam Bedrosian recorded the final four outs for his second save of the season. Salt Lake starter Randy Wolf allowed two runs and five hits while striking out five with two walks in 5 2/3 innings.
