NBA • A person familiar with the negotiations says veteran free agent forward Shawn Marion has agreed to a contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Marion informed the Cavs over the weekend that he will take a minimum deal and play for them next season, said the person who spoke Sunday to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the contract has not been finalized. Marion also had interest in signing with the Indiana Pacers, who is looking for help after losing Paul George for the season with a broken leg.
ESPN.com first reported Marion's agreement with the Cavs.
The 36-year-old Marion, a four-time All-Star, gives Cleveland another veteran with postseason experience to compliment superstar LeBron James. The team has previously signed shooters Mike Miller and James Jones, who won two NBA titles with James in Miami.
Marion has played in 103 NBA playoff games. He's averaged 15.8 points and 9.0 rebounds during his career.
Federer, Serena take titles in Cincinnati
TENNIS • Roger Federer won an unprecedented sixth championship in Cincinnati, overcoming one bad set. Serena Williams dominated for her first title.
Federer extended his record of finals perfection in Cincinnati, beating David Ferrer 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 in the Western & Southern Open on Sunday. He's won all six times he's reached the tournament's title match.
The latest came against an opponent he has dominated throughout his career. Federer improved to 16-0 against Ferrer, who has won only five sets off him overall.
Earlier on Sunday, Williams finally got the one that had always slipped away. And she did it so convincingly that she came away thinking another title could be coming soon.
Williams needed only 62 minutes to beat Ana Ivanovic 6-4, 6-1 for a personal breakthrough. She'd never even reached the finals in Cincinnati until last year, when she fell apart and lost to Victoria Azarenka on a third-set tiebreaker.
Penske gets boost with Milwaukee win
Racing • Pole-sitter Will Power fended off Juan Pablo Montoya to win Sunday at the Milwaukee Mile, giving a huge boost to Team Penske's chances for the IndyCar season title.
The 33-year-old Australian added to the slim lead he had in the standings over teammate Helio Castroneves. Power raced to his third victory of the season, and his first on an oval.
Bolt cruises to win in Rio de Janeiro
Track & Field • Usain Bolt won a 100-meter race on a Rio de Janeiro beach with a time of 10.06 seconds on Sunday.
Bolt cruised to victory on a four-lane standard running track set up on Leme beach. The Jamaican easily beat Mark Lewis-Francis of Britain, Jefferson Liberato Lucindo of Brazil and Wallace Spearmon of the United States.
It was Bolt's first 100-meter race of the year.
