Tennis • Serena Williams rallied to advance to the Western & Southern Open final in Cincinnati, beating Caroline Wozniacki 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 on Saturday. The top-ranked Williams lost a set for the first time in the tournament and committed 41 unforced errors, 20 more than Wozniacki.
Williams beat the 12th-seeded Dane for the eighth time in nine career matches. In the final Sunday, she will face fifth-seeded Maria Sharapova or ninth-seeded Ana Ivanovic.
Williams has never won the tournament in five previous appearances. She lost a third-set tiebreaker to Victoria Azarenka last year.
IndyCar leader gets pole in Milwaukee
RACING • IndyCar points leader Will Power will start from the pole Sunday at the Milwaukee Mile.
Power took the pole Saturday with a lap at 169.262 mph. He has called Milwaukee his favorite oval of the IndyCar circuit.
Team Penske teammate Helio Castroneves, second in the standings, will start eighth.
Tony Kanaan qualified second at 168.662 mph. A third Penske driver, Juan Pablo Montoya, will start third.
Dumais, Bromberg win diving titles
Swimming & diving • Four-time Olympian Troy Dumais won the men's 3-meter title and Samantha Bromberg took the women's 10-meter crown Saturday in the U.S. diving championships in Knoxville, Tenn.
Dumais, from Ventura, Calif., posted 492.3 points to win his 15th national title in a 3-meter event and his 36th national championship overall. Bromberg, a Texas sophomore from Bexley, Ohio, had 368.15 points to win the national title in the women's 10-meter for a second straight year.
Toby Stanley of Noblesville, Ind., and Mark Anderson of Lake Forest, Calif., teamed up to win the men's synchronized 10-meter title. Ariel Rittenhouse of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Amanda Burke of Southampton, Penn., won the women's synchronized 3-meter.
The national championships conclude Sunday at the University of Tennessee.
French woman wins European marathon
track & field • Christelle Daunay of France broke away from Italian Valeria Straneo in the final stages of the marathon to win the European Championships title in Zurich on Saturday.
Jessica Augusto of Portugal, who had been in lone pursuit of the pair for much of the race, took bronze.
At age 39, Daunay won the biggest title in her career in championship record time of 2 hours, 25 minutes on a tough course hugging Zurich's lake with four steep climbs. Straneo finished 13 seconds behind for her second silver in as many years after she took second place at the 2013 world championships.
After a week off in the series, the Milwaukee race begins a three-week stretch to end the season.
