Auburn coach Gus Malzahn says Nick Marshall will "suffer the consequences" but declined to elaborate on the punishment the quarterback will face after he was cited for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana following a traffic stop in Georgia.
Marshall was pulled out of Monday's SEC media days appearance by Malzahn, three days after the senior received a $1,000 ticket in Reynolds, Ga.
Malzahn told beat reporters Marshall had been a "model citizen" before the incident,
The coach says Marshall is "very regretful, and he's embarrassed he hurt his teammates, his family, his coaches." Marshall had 1,976 yards passing and 1,068 rushing last season, leading the Tigers to the national title game.

Mason said three-game starter Patton Robinette probably has an edge over the other five passers in the battle for the starting job going into preseason camp. That group includes LSU transfer Stephen Rivers and redshirt freshman Johnny McCrary.
Mason says his timetable for picking a starter is simply "the first game."
• A rising gold football-shaped trophy will be the prize for the national champion in the new College Football Playoff.
College Football Playoff executive director Bill Hancock unveiled the more than 2-foot-high trophy Monday. Made from 24-karat gold, bronze and stainless steel, the bottom of the trophy is shaped like a football and rises to form an actual-sized ball at the top. There are four laces, reflective of the four teams that will make it to the playoffs.
