First Published Jun 25 2014 01:56 pm • Last Updated Jun 25 2014 11:20 pm

Steve Schneiter never has qualified to play the PGA Tour full-time, but he has a knack for showing up in the PGA Championship.

Schneiter, 50, will make his 12th career appearance in the last major tournament of the season, thanks to his 11th-place finish Wednesday in the PGA Professional National Championship at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Dustin Volk, the head pro at Valley View Golf Course in Layton, will join Schneiter and PGA Tour regular Daniel Summerhays of Fruit Heights in August at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville.

Affiliated with his family’s Pebblebrook Golf Links in Sandy, Schneiter shot 72-75-75-69 in the club pro event. He moved up from a tie for 40th place entering the final round by making three birdies and no bogeys, comfortably finishing among the 20 qualifiers for the PGA Championship.

Volk (71-71-76-71) recovered from a poor third round with birdies on two of the first three holes Wednesday and tied for fifth place, even with a bogey on No. 18.

Matt Baird, a teaching pro at Riverside Country Club in Provo, shot 74-71-78-74 to tie for 41st.
