Minneapolis • Two people with knowledge of the decision tell The Associated Press that the Minnesota Timberwolves have decided they want Memphis coach Dave Joerger to be their next head coach. Now all that stands in the way of that happening are coming to an agreement on a contract and discussing potential compensation with the Grizzlies.

The people requested anonymity because the Timberwolves are not commenting publicly on their search.

Joerger met with Timberwolves leadership, including owner Glen Taylor, on Saturday before returning to Memphis. He still has two years on his contract with the Grizzlies, but Memphis owner Robert Pera is believed to be considering a coaching change after firing two top executives.

Battier wins award

Shane Battier has been announced as the second winner of the NBA's Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year award.

The award recognizes selfless play, leadership, work as a role model to other players and commitment to a player's team. On Battier's behalf, the NBA will also make a $25,000 donation to the Battier Take Charge Foundation, his charity.
