Tooele • Three-time AMA champion Josh Hayes topped qualifying Saturday in the Superbike Shootout's Arai Mountain Nationals at Miller Motorsports Park.

Hayes posted a record one-lap time of 1 minute, 27.979 seconds on the West Course to capture the pole position for Sunday's finals.

Rounding out the top five in superbike qualifying were Chris Filmore (1:28.358), Cameron Beaubier (1:29.133), David Anthony (1:29.49) and Chris Ulrich (1:29.835).

Hayes has a pair of top-three finishes at Sonoma and Fontana in the first two Superbike Shootout series events this season, but he will be looking for his first victory at MMP.

"Miller has always been a great track for me," he said. "... It holds a special place in my heart."

In the pro sportbike qualifying, Garrett Gerloff led the way with a new one-lap record time of 1:29.772.

Rounding out he top five were Benny Solis Jr. (1:30.712), Bobby Fong (1:30.784), J.D. Beach (1:31.503) and Joe Roberts (1:31.506).
