Pittsburgh • A person with knowledge of the decision says the Pittsburgh Penguins have fired coach Dan Bylsma, the start of what could be a massive offseason overhaul following the team's latest playoff flameout.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team had not yet announced the dismissal. A news conference to discuss the team's future is scheduled for Friday.

TSN first reported Bylsma's firing.

Bylsma won a franchise-record 252 games but failed to produce a bookend to the championship he won with stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin in 2009. The Penguins were just 4-5 in playoff series since raising the Stanley Cup five years ago.

The status of general manager Ray Shero is also unclear.
