COLLEGE FOOTBALL • The BCS standings are out. The College Football Playoff selection committee Top 25 is in. Starting Oct. 28, the panel given the task of picking the schools for the new four-team playoff will release weekly rankings.
Voting for the newest college football poll will be done using the same procedure and recusal policy used by the committee that chooses the 68-team field for NCAA men's basketball tournament. The voting will be broken down into tiers, with the panel first grouping teams and then coming to a consensus on how they should be ordered with numerous votes.
A committee member who is employed or compensated by a school, or who has an immediate family member at a school, will not be allowed to vote for that school. The 13-member committee, which includes five athletic directors, will meet one day a week and release their rankings on Tuesday nights on ESPN.
Officials have been meeting in north Texas this week to hammer out the last details of the new system.
Drivers like Indy's new road course
AUTO RACING • IndyCar drivers were unified Wednesday: Indianapolis' new road course is way better than the old one. Heck, they couldn't even find anything to complain about. After a six-hour test session on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile course, virtually every driver who took laps around Indianapolis Motor Speedway raved about the course after its $5 million face lift. The old course was often panned by racers for being too slick, having too many varied track compositions and a lack of passing areas.
