The Southern California baseball team scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat Utah 3-2 on Saturday in a Pac-12 game in Los Angeles.

Kody Davis and TJ Bennett hit back-to-back RBI doubles as Utah (11-20, 2-11) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Utes went scoreless the rest of the way, although they outhit the Trojans 8-6.

Utah reliever Dalton Carroll (1-3) took the loss.

USC (16-17, 5-9) loaded the bases with one out in the ninth inning with a single, hit batter and walk. A sacrifice fly off Bret Helton sent home the game-winning run.

Utah starter Zach Adams pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits with two strikeouts.

Pepperdine 9, BYU 1 • In Malibu, Calif., Brock Whitney went 2-for-3 with an RBI triple for the Cougars, but Waves pounded out 14 hits in the West Coast Conference victory.

BYU starter Desmond Poulson (4-4) took the loss, giving up nine runs on 12 hits over 42⁄3 innings.

The Waves (27-8, 12-3) won the series 2-1 after losing the opener 1-0 on Thursday. BYU fell to 14-23 overall and 5-10 in the WCC.

Softball

Arizona State 7, Utah 4 • In Tempe, Ariz., Marissa Mendenhall hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning to give the Utes (16-19, 3-11 Pac-12) a 4-2 lead, but the sixth-ranked Sun Devils (38-6, 12-3) rallied for five runs in the bottom half of the inning.

BYU 1-5, Santa Clara 2-0 • In Provo, BYU pitcher McKenna Bull went the distance in the second game, striking out six batters, as the Cougars salvaged the doubleheader split. Sydney Broderick hit an RBI double in the third inning to spark BYU's offense.

In the first game, BYU's Ashlee Robinson hit a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 1-1, but Santa Clara answered with a solo shot in the top of the seventh to get the win.

Women's tennis

BYU 4, San Diego 3 • In Provo, BYU's Mayci Jones defeated Shani Blecher 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match, and the Cougars also got victories from sisters Desiree and Nicolette Tran.

Nicolette Tran beat Marta Stojanovic 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 2 singles match, and Desiree Tran beat Idil Haciraifoglu 6-4, 6-3 in No. 5 singles as the Cougars (10-7, 6-1 WCC) won their home finale.

Men's volleyball

UCLA 3, BYU 1 • In Los Angeles, Josue Rivera had 12 kills for the Cougars, and Taylor Sander notched 11, but the Bruins prevailed 25-23, 23-25, 25-13, 25-20.

Gonzalo Quiroga led UCLA with 14 kills.
