State colleges: BYU golfers tied for second in Cowboy Classic

BYU’s Joe Parkinson was tied for fifth place and Cole Ogden was tied for ninth after the first two rounds of the Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale, Ariz., helping put the Cougars in a tie for second place.

Parkinson was at 3-under-par 137 at the Talking Stick Golf Club’s North Course, and Ogden was at 2-under 136.

Utah’s Casey Halliday shot a 1-under 139, helping put the Utes in fourth place in the team standings.

Sean Walsh of Gonzaga led the individual leaderboard at 7-under 133.

Oklahoma (560) sat in first place, followed by BYU and Colorado (561), and Utah (562).

The tournament’s 21 teams will play the final round on Tuesday.

Women’s basketball

Utah senior forward Michelle Plouffe has been named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-America Honorable Mention Team. Plouffe averaged 18.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per game for the Utes this season.

Plouffe was also named to the Pac-12 All-Conference Team.
