UVU crushes BYU in baseball

Craig Brinkerhoff went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs as the Utah Valley baseball team beat BYU 8-3 on Tuesday in a nonconference game in Provo.

Mark Krueger had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs for Utah Valley (9-18).

UVU starter Devin Nelson (2-4) earned the win, holding the Cougars to three runs on 10 hits over 81⁄3 innings.

Sean Moysh and Seth Rhineer had two hits each for the Wolverines, who won their third straight game.

Jarrett Jarvis had two hits for BYU (11-19).

Cougar honored

BYU senior outside hitter Taylor Sander earned Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week honors for helping the Cougars clinch the No. 1 seed for the conference volleyball tournament.

Sander contributed 50 kills on the weekend. The Huntington Beach, Calif., native had a season-high 27 kills and a career-high eight block assists in BYU’s nail-biter against No. 5 UC Santa Barbara.
