The Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team beat Lake Region State College 73-63 on Monday in Salina, Kan., in the first round of the NJCAA Tournament.

Natalie Parson and Summer Yack each scored 15 points for the Bruins (26-7), while Bella Swan added 12 points and Tanesha Daniels tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds.

No. 12 seed SLCC will face No. 5 seed Central Arizona College in the second round on Tuesday.

Women's golf

In St. George, BYU's Lea Garner was tied for second place with a 6-over-par 150 on the first day of the Entrada Classic, helping put the Cougars in second place in the team standings. Wisconsin's Alexis Nelson (145) was in first place.
